JCloned ISU vs Texas Tech Matchups

UPDATE: ISU Offense vs. Tech Defense is now up as well.

UPDATE 2: Special Teams is up

This is where defensive coordinators earn their pay and make their reputations. Texas Tech presents the most productive offense in the country, yet I think their are reasons for optimism as ISU squares off in Lubbock. Read the matchup analysis and let me know your comments.

JCloned I don't like losing

I don't like losing anymore than the next guy and am not interested in moral victories, but I do like this team. I like the intensity. I like our physical play. I like our attitude. We need to eliminate a lot of mistakes, special teams and turnovers, but there is a lot to like about this team. I am excited for the future, frustrated by losing, but like our team Continue

JCloned ISU vs. Nebraska Matchups Meyer and crew vs. the Blackshirts

This is going to be a fun matchup to watch. In many ways I wish I could watch this a football fan, not a Cyclone fan because it will be an interesting matchup to see how it plays out. I could create an argument for this to swing very favorablly and also very unfavorably for our Cyclones. I posted my look at the matchup which you can find in the football group or just follow the link below.

JCloned Iowa State vs. Nebraska Matchups

I didn't expect going in to this season, to write many matchup stories where ISU's was expected to fare well. The turn around the Bolt has done on our defense has been very impressive. While Nebraska is the strongest offense ISU has faced, I expect a big things Saturday from the ISU defenders. Read the analysis in the link below. Link Continue

JCloned What is Different?

What is different?

Sunday afternoon I sat watched my son play in a flag football game and listened in on the conversations of a couple Cyclone fans in the background. Two things really stood out to me from their conversation and from what I have seen, their conversation has been

JCloned ISU vs. Toledo Keys to Victory

The Cyclones really need this game to be over early. The longer Toledo hangs around, the more dangerous they become. This may be the most pivotal game ISU will face going forward in determining the fortures of our season. Click the link below to read the Keys to a Cyclone Victory.

JCloned ISU vs. Toledo Matchups Special Teams

Some big match ups Satruday will take place in special teams. I don't think special teams will be a draw and they hold the potential to be a huge factor in the outcome of the game. Follow the link below to read the analysis of the matchups and let me know your comments.

JCloned Continuing The ISU Toledo Matchup Analysis

ISU's defense be may, "gasp", underrated. Now before you think I have been drinking too much leftover "koolaid" from Saturday, the ISU defense still has a ways to go and is not yet top division Big 12, but it isn't bad anymore either. This week should be a good experience for our defense with both the road game atmosphere along with an opponet with a mix of young and experienced players I just posted by breakdown of when Toledo has the ball and you can read it by following the link below.

ISURocks Basketball Commit Justin Hamilton

Iowa State receive a commitment from Justin Hamilton a 6' 10"senior from Lone Peak Utah. Here is the kicker, he was playing football, not basketball until he grew to his present height during his sophomore year. Last year he then played mostly JV, but had a huge summer prompting him to be called by some one of the top big 10 men in the West. You never know how guys will develop, but he likes contact under the basket and has played such little ball that he likely has a big upside. A true diamo

JCloned Why I Love This Coaching Staff

While I probably should have gotten this up prior to the win Saturday. I finally got my thoughts together and posted in the football group discussion that has been on my mind for awhile. At the risk of sounding like a bandwagoner talking about this so close to a big win, I really like this staff. (I really liked them last week too) Not because of the losses or wins, but because I think the way they are choosing to build this can really be something special, not today, maybe not next season, b

JCloned Special Teams will Iowa or ISU have the advantage?

Iowa and Iowa State both have their strengths and weakness, but in the final assessment, it is ISU's that will need to step up their performance. In what may be an overlooked swing to the outcome of the game Saturday field position will be strongly impacted by the special teams.

JCloned Breaking Down the Iowa Game

I posted my look at the matchups between the Iowa State offense and the Iowa defense in the football group. This is a matchup that is about as scary on paper as you can get. Fortunately the games are decided on paper and come Saturday what ISU and Iowa did in their prior games won't matter. For a look at the matchups go to the football group or click here. Continue

JCloned What has changed from Mac to Chizik?

Comparing the Starts 2006 vs. 2007

Let’s take a look at where we are two games into the 2007 season. The most important metric is obviously wins, where we are down 2 wins vs. last year, but there are some other interesting differences and similarities. First let’s look at the ru

JCloned Looking Back at the Keys to the Game

I closed my keys to the game with, “A big night from Meyer in a game where ISU wins the turnover battle and puts consistent pressure on Sanders and jubilant fans are driving home Saturday night. Lose these keys to the game and a game loss will likely follow.” We didn’t and we did.

ISURocks 2 Deep Changes

A few changes can be found on Iowa State's latest two-deep. Sophomore Christopher Lyle, a 248-pound transfer from Butler (Kansas) Community College, is the new No. 2 weakside defensive end behind Rashawn Parker. Michael Bibbs, another juco product, shares the backup spot at strong linebacker after making three tackles against Kent State. With Caleb Berg injured, Steve Johnson is officially the starter at strong safety.

And J.J. Bass, who gained 133 yards in his ISU debut, has moved t
